What Valentines Day Means To Me…..

Happy Valentines Day!

Valentines Day has always been just another day to spend money on the ones you love.  In fact I’m thinking that Hallmark is the culprit behind the original marketing of this day making men and women all over the World feel guilty if they don’t purchase something wonderful for their significant others on this day.  What’s even worse are the significant others who have fallen even more victim to this scheme by making their husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc., feel guilty if they don’t get them something!  Listen ladies, if you’re one of these little bitches that won’t put out or pouts all day complaining to your friends because your husband forgot what day it was or didn’t get you anything, then you didn’t deserve anything in the first place.

Listen, to me Valentines Day is just another day to say ‘I love you’, and if you can’t say this every day to the one you love, and you need this special day (VDay) to express it and say it, then there is a real problem in your relationship.

So Here’s my Valentines Day story:

Driving down the road one Valentines Day (we didn’t realize that it was Valentines Day cause we refuse to celebrate this stupid day) with my boyfriend at the time Steve, he suddenly, out of the blue, tells me, “You know?  I want to marry you!  I really want to spend the rest of my life with you.”  So I replied, “Well, OK……”  And that was that!

It wasn’t a proposal, or maybe it was, but not the most romantic proposal in the history of the World.  It was my best friend telling me that he had decided, and with great thought, that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with little ole’ me, and to me that was the most special thing about it of all!

As we drove we heard on the radio that it was Valentines Day…..we hadn’t even thought of it!  We laughed and laughed because all of these years of knowing each other we both thought that asking someone to marry you on this day was just a little to cliche for us!  But here we were on Valentines Day, him proposing to me and me excepting.  Ironic, don’t ya think?

Anyway, A Happy Valentine’s Day from an anti-Valentines Day girl, even though it holds a little more meaning to me now.  And for you all that celebrate it, try celebrating everyday like Valentines Day from now on, and ladies; keep being your husbands mistress and girlfriend, never settle for just being his wife…..

Until next time…..

Yep, we were engaged on Valentine’s Day, too! Today is the 20th anniversary of this little ring on my finger. It’s the only thing that makes V-Day special to me. Otherwise, it’s just another day to spend money.

  2. So true..why not make everyday “Valentine’s Day”..as Jack and I do. Love you lots..Mom
