Trisha's Thoughts

My Glamorous Life? Well, Yes and No, But I’m Not Complaining

So it’s been brought to my attention recently that a lot of you think my life is this glamorous thing.  That’s OK, you can think that, but let me assure you that though I am blessed to be able to see parts of the World that I may have never seen otherwise and live in another country other than America, let me assure you it’s not as glamorous as you may think.

‘Glamorous’ Part:

I live in the UK, aka: Another country

I live close enough to Europe to see and visit much of it, whether it be by car or by plane.

I get to go to exotic places, aka; little islands with clear blue water.

I get to meet and hobnob with the rich and famous.

Reality Part of the ‘Glamour’:

I live in a country that is really not anything like the US.  Sometimes they can’t understand My accent, their government takes 50% of your paycheck, it costs 50% to 60% more to live here than it does in the US; every dollar you make in the US is worth about $1.60 in the UK(depending on where the pound is at)…..so if you take £20.00 out of an ATM in the UK, you usually will have around $32.00 coming out instead.

You think travel is glamorous?  Have you ever flown on a plane for 12 hours or more?  Well if you haven’t let me tell you, it’s not the most comfortable thing.  Unless you can afford 1st class (which we can’t….yet!), even in Premiere economy your legs and back start to hurt, the guy in front of you probably wants to put his seat all the way back which means for 10 of those 12 hours you are even more cramped.  If you’re unlucky enough to have someone next to you that you either, a. don’t know, b. is large, c. smells then your width is violated meaning that you can’t spread your arms out comfortably to get comfortable.  Now your legs are cramped, and your arms are cramped. (this is why I love to pay a bit more for premiere economy when affordable).

Is this real glamorous yet?

When we come to the States it’s usually on business, but we always try to see everyone that we can (family and friends) while we here.  No, we can’t see everybody.  It is physically draining to drive everywhere, but we try our best too!  Here’s an example: We land at 9:00pm we get to the hotel at around 10pm.  Wake up, get the rental car, and drive to our next hotel or to our next business meeting.  If it’s my husbands meeting then he has to drive me to the next hotel and then go drive back to where ever his meeting is going to take place.  After his meeting he then drives back to the hotel where I have been working on my computer (since my business is an online business).  Depending on where my husbands meetings are is where we drive to next and will be where our next hotel is.  That could be California, Arizona, Nevada, etc.  This goes on for the next 3 weeks.  Driving, staying in different hotels in different locations, living out of a suitcase.  Becoming so tired and so stressed out because we don’t have a house that we can just go to and live there for 3 weeks.  NO, we gave that up along with our cars to move to the UK.  Our things are in 2 different storage’s and if we need something we have to drive to 2 separate locations to get something out.  We see family members along the way, we see friends along the way, we enjoy this.  It’s a break from our work and the daily bump and grind that is our life when we visit our America

Is this real glamorous yet?

Did you know that most nights consist of just staying home and working on projects or even sometimes work (Why YES!  We also work at night and on the weekends! OMG!) or were watching Netflix’s, etc.  Yes, we are homebodies, and we’re proud of it!  I will admit though, lots of our weekends are for touring the UK or Europe, but not every weekend.  I mean wouldn’t you if you had this same opportunity? All in all we just try to relax most of the time when we are at our temporary home in the UK.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, but I am letting you all, that think that we live such a glamorous life know, that even though getting to go to all of these Fantastic destinations does Rock and is glamorous in it’s own way, that there is a not so glamorous part of getting there.

My life is beautiful and I wouldn’t change it for the World, but now you know how tiring it can be.

Until next time…..
