I’m not a big reality TV watcher, in fact I think it’s bad for the brain to watch some of these reality shows. I believe that they “dumb” you down if you watch them all of the time, but will admit I have been watching ‘Real Housewives of The OC’ since it started and it is one of my “guilty pleasures”.
So I was curious about that show ‘I Am Cait’ since some of you have said it was a great show so I decided to check it out this morning.
I started with last nights episode, and was surprisingly pleased.
Here’s my take on it:
At first it was weird seeing Bruce Jenner as a woman, but I soon got over that when the show started to draw me in. Yes, it drew me in. I know, I was surprised too.
It wasn’t that kind of reality show where the women are being catty and have all sorts of silly drama, it’s a show about transgenders and what they go through on a day to day basis. How society treats them, how their families treat them, what they go through medically, etc. It’s rather interesting to be able to watch and learn a little more about this still taboo subject to many.
Of course Cait is the main attraction and it’s primarily focused on her, but she herself is one of the most respectful and caring human beings I’ve ever watched on a reality show and you can actually tell that she is truly genuine. This is what drew me in the most. I’ve always liked Bruce Jenner, and I’ve never heard anything bad about him when he was Bruce. I always felt sorry for him when he was married to that bitch Kardashian family and you could always tell he was miserable at that time in his life. But now he is Cait, and you don’t see that look of misery any longer on her face. She is truly happy being who she always knew she should be. She is having fun and living her life the way she wants.
I give her props and mad respect for coming out finally at the age of 65 to be who she truly is. Most of us never have that kind of courage in any aspect of our life and that’s sad.
I know people who think she’s a freak and don’t get the whole “I feel like a woman, but I’m in a mans body”, and I’ll admit I understand it to a point, but still didn’t get the whole grasp of it. But after watching this show and seeing these transgender women and men being portrayed as human beings and seeing what life is really like for them, I now have a different view. It’s not easy for them at all. They have the same problems we do financially, with relationships, etc., but on top of those “normal” problems they also have this other challenge of being a transgender. They don’t do this for attention, this isn’t a “show” they are putting on, these are human beings that have never felt comfortable in their born bodies, and are now slowly transitioning into the body they feel they should of been born in. You may not get it or understand it no matter how well someone explains it to you, but one thing you have to keep in mind is that they are people and they have feelings, and in this show you see these feelings come out about how they are treated in a not so accepting world.
Love it or not, this is a different type of reality show that we can actually learn from, while being entertained along the way with Cait’s witty charm and grace. This show has actual feels and heart unlike most reality TV, and I think you will pleasantly surprised with how well it is done.
Until next time…
Well said honey!
