Trisha's Thoughts

My Thoughts On The 85th Academy Awards

First off, I think the Oscars is a sham.  It’s a highly political awards show that’s all about who is politically in tune, who’s kissing who’s butt, and all of that Hollywood crud.  It’s a who looks best in what, who said what, who did what show of the most famous and elite and the winner’s aren’t nominated by the public (who I think should nominate and vote), but by stuffy Hollywood types who are usually liberal in their thinking, so this just sets the standards for what type of movie, or actor, will be nominated.

I myself was surprised to see Django up for a nomination, but not surprised to see Lincoln (ugh) and Argo (which was rather good).  I personally will never see Lincoln because the story that is told in this movie is so inaccurate it’s pathetic.  It’s so obvious that the writer and director were trying to get their liberal political statement out there that it makes me sick.  People will watch this thinking that this was the true Lincoln story.  I mean sure Daniel Day Lewis is a fabulous actor and that’s what the Oscars are about right?  Who the best whatever is?  How do I know all of this if I haven’t seen it?  I know people who have, have seen the trailer, and have seen scenes from it.  Anyway, enough of that rant.

So I’m going to go down a list of the basic most important winners (because who really cares about all the other behind the scene stuff really) and tell you what I think (rut roh!)

Best Movie, ‘Argo’. It’s a good movie, but Oscar worthy, no.  This is what I’m talking about.  Make a movie based on an historical political event, put some great names behind and in it, and there you have it!  A sure fire way of knowing you’ve now got a shot at the Oscar.  If I had to go with the list I think that ‘Armour’ should of won best picture.  Sure it’s a French movie, but it’s a truly wonderful movie without the Hollywood hype and true acting that grips at your heart and soul.  You should watch this movie, see what I’m talking about, and make your own judgement.

Best Actor, ‘Daniel Day Lewis’.  I agree with this one and I haven’t even seen the movie, but have seen enough of Mr. Lewis’s acting to know that he is brilliant, and a much better actor than any of the others on the list.

Best Actress, ‘Jennifer Lawrence’.  Ugh, no, and then no again.  Are they serious?  I mean she is a good actress, but once again not Oscar worthy.  My choice from this list would of been ‘Naomi Watts in The Impossible (which should of been up for best movie if you ask me)!  That was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. Naomi Watts does an outstanding performance, especially if you’re comparing her to Miss Lawrence.  See ‘The Impossible’ if you haven’t.  It’s brilliant!

Best Supporting Actor, ‘Christoph Waltz’.  Yes, yes, and 100 times yes!  But seriously he deserved to be up for best actor since if it wasn’t for him Django would of sucked!  In fact, when he died in Django, that’s when the movie should of ended.  He was that good and he made that movie.  They got this one right.

Best Supporting Actress: ‘Anne Hathaway’.  I think they got this one right as well.  Even though she wasn’t in the movie for that long the acting and singing that she did she did with such passion it was for sure Oscar worthy.

Directing: ‘Ang Lee, Life of Pi’.  This was one of the most stunning movies I’ve seen in a while.  The story was good, the acting was good, the visual was out of this world, so yes, I think he deserves this Oscar.  What they said couldn’t be done he did with this movie and it was fantastic!

So there you have it!  The basic (most important) winners of the 2013 Oscars and my thoughts.  Does anyone really care what I think about this subject, well I have a few fans that do, but all in all nope, and that’s OK.  I’ll keep ranting about life and other stuff and I’ll keep posting.  Who knows maybe someday I’ll even write an Oscar worthy movie!

Until next time…..
